THE SAFE CONTRACEPTION WITHOUT TAKING PILLS

As an alternative to pills that have to be taken daily, the so-called "depot injection" is available, a pure progestogen preparation (like the mini-pill), which is administered as an injection into the buttock muscles by the doctor and can be effective for up to 3 months. This method is mostly reserved for women who have completed their family planning in the medium term and for whom intolerance to pill hormones is not expected.
 

ADVANTAGES 3-MONTH INJECTION

• The long duration of action ensures safe contraception without the risk of ingestion errors (forgetting to take the pill).
   

DISADVANTAGES 3-MONTH INJECTION

• If intolerances or side effects occur, it is not possible to discontinue use quickly; instead, it is necessary to wait until the effect has worn off.
• It is relatively common for menstrual irregularities to occur during use, and it can take quite a long time for the body's own rhythm to re-establish itself after discontinuation of the injection.
